Gabriel Jacobs, 12, collapsed while playing basketball with his dad and brothers and died of a heart defect his parents never even knew he had.

His mom says physicals didn’t catch Gabe’s condition – only an ultrasound could have —  and she wants other parents to be aware.

“I want to change everything in life for other people because no one should experience sudden cardiac death of their children. That’s not fair,” Kim Jacobs, Gabe’s mom, said.

Jacobs started Gabe’s Heart Foundation to raise awarness and spread kindness in the community because her son was well known for going out of his way to help others.

They’re holding a spirit night at Jim’N Nick’s Bar-B-Q Tuesday, Novemebr 17, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., and 15 percent of the proceeds will be donated to Gabe’s Heart Foundation.

The foundation is also holding a 5K at the ZMax Dragway in Concord next Saturday, Nov. 21.
